Lincoln Public Schools (LPS) proposes to improve school safety for middle school students in alternative school settings by providing them with the tools they need to be successful.  This will be accomplished through three activities:  (1) Implementing evidence-based solutions, including case management, school-based therapy and Trust Based Relational Intervention with students to increase attachment, self-regulation, coping skills and mental health; (2) Developing a re-entry support system for youth returning to school from community programs, including juvenile justice, mental health, and other out-of-home placements; and (3) Providing comprehensive MTSS-B Tier 1 training to all LPS secondary teachers and staff so they are better prepared to handle behavior challenges. The school district will hire support personnel to work with approximately 40 families per year who have a middle school student assigned to its Student Support Program due to suspension or expulsion.
