Kentucky FY24 Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Reallocation Funds Program

The Commonwealth of Kentucky is committed to achieving full Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) compliance and adhering to the requirements outlined in the Justice for All Reauthorization Act of 2016 (Pub. L. No. 114-324) and will use their resources toward that end. In coordination with the Emergency Assurance for Audit Year 1 (August 20, 2022 – August 19, 2023), the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet (JPSC) requests funding through the FY24 PREA Reallocation Funds Program to utilize no less than 5 percent of DOJ grant funds solely for the purpose of achieving full compliance with the juvenile standards in future years. Funding will be used in a subaward to the Department of Juvenile Justice to equip two facilities with new PREA-compliant shower doors that provide privacy but allow for safety monitoring of juveniles experiencing mental health distress and self-harm tendencies.
