Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $22,117)

Vermont proposes an integrated approach to sexual abuse in prisons, increasing investigation training audiences, multidimensional delivery methods, increase administrative investigative outcomes, update incarcerated individual orientation materials, and facility sexual abuse signage.

The proposal continues the almost two decades of work the Department has implemented.  In 2003, their department focused first on line staff.  The purpose of this grant would be to enhance that work by expanding investigative outcomes and capacity.  This will be done by creating a more diverse delivery method to accommodate the flexibility needs for the workforce.  This will also allow them to train a greater audience and lead to more efficient and accurate investigations.

Lastly, they need to update and modernize their incarcerated individual orientation.  As they have learned, expecting facilitator lead orientation and incarcerated individuals to gather in groups is not practical.  Vermont will use resources to develop an orientation video to be used on the unit television and tablets.  This would also include an updated materials and signage that would be available in all translations and mediums necessary.
