Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $1,000,000)
The Rosebud Sioux Tribe Adult Corrections Facility (ACF) proposes a comprehensive approach to reduce the negative impacts of illicit substances on individuals and families of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe by coordinating health and social services for individuals involved in the justice system. This proposal builds on the existing Adult Wellness Team, a multi-disciplinary coordinating body, that is facilitated by the ACF to improve access to services and overall well-being of inmates. The project will identify additional partners to be added to the Adult Wellness Team that can broaden its reach and impact while developing improved policies and procedures for collecting and sharing data between Adult Wellness Team partners. The project will directly enhance the ACF’s ability to provide substance use disorder (SUD) services to inmates by adding addiction workforce staff roles, including a Program Coordinator, Behavioral Health Specialist, and Wellness Coordinator. These staff will implement outpatient treatment using the Matrix Model while providing peer support, care coordination, and community outreach and education services. Anticipated outcomes of the program are to enhance access to SUD treatment for inmates, improve coordination of services between the ACF and other local programs, lower rates of recidivism, and increase feelings of family and social connectedness.
