Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $999,865)

The Beaufort County Health Department will expand their comprehensive program to combat the opioid epidemic, integrating Medicated Assisted Treatment (MAT), behavioral health services, and harm reduction strategies, including syringe services.  The MAT program will utilize the evidence-based medication Suboxone in conjunction with counseling and other behavioral health prescribing services, including individual and group therapy sessions, educational workshops, support groups, and peer mentoring. This project aims to increase access to effective treatment for substance use disorder, reduce opioid overdose death rates, enhance the overall well-being and quality of life for individuals and families affected by substance use disorder, and foster collaboration with law enforcement and community organizations to address the opioid epidemic from multiple angles.
