Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $984,969)
Chickaloon Native Village (CNV) has been a federally recognized Tribal government since 1973, within the Matanuska-Susitna Borough (MSB, population of 115,239) in Alaska and governed by Chickaloon Village Traditional (CVTC) Council. CNV has 26,340 individuals in the Chickaloon Alaska Native Village Statistical Area (ANVSA) that is 5,957 square miles.
The Tribal Opioid Response (TOR) Program, housed within the HSS Department, began in 2019, after CVTC received SAMHSA funding to address the growing opioid use disorder, opioid misuse disorder, and substance use disorder recovery needs in CNV’s ANVSA. The TOR Program includes prevention and wellness activities and groups that are open to anyone who needs assistance with recovery efforts.
With this project funding, CVTC will continue developing a robust continuum of care of services from prevention all the way through recovery sustainability in CNV’s community. This project funding will also allow CNV to hire and train additional staff, continue the education and training for current staff, and enhance current services while expanding services as described in proposed project goals.
