The Burlington County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) seeks to implement the Burlington County Sheriff’s Office Body-Worn Camera (BWC) Expansion Project. Through this project, BCSO seeks to purchase 90 BWCs to expand and update the department’s existing BWC program. The project activities funded through this project will include the purchase of 90 AXON BWCs and its associated equipment; revision and review of the existing BCSO BWC policy; implementation of the updated BWC policy; training of all officers in the new BWC policy, AXON BWC use, and the AXON evidence sharing portals; conduct the necessary set up for the new AXON evidence sharing portals; issue AXON BWCs to officers; and publish the updated BWC policy to the public on the BCSO’s website. BCSO will ensure that its updated BWC policy and training practices follow all state and local laws regarding BWC use, data storage, and evidence sharing. BCSO anticipates that the outcomes of the proposed project will be greatly beneficial to Burlington County and all of its residents. Anticipated project outcomes include updated BWC equipment for BCSO officers; greatly improved evidence sharing between the BCSO, Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, and municipal law enforcement agencies; and a revised BCSO BWC policy. These outcomes will increase the efficiency of adjudication for cases under administrative review, enhance officer safety, improve evidence sharing between BCSO and its partners, and further promote transparency and accountability within the BCSO. The proposed project will service all of Burlington County, New Jersey, and benefit its residents, municipal law enforcement agencies, and the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office. The proposed project will greatly assist in furthering the BCPO’s mission statement to safeguard the rights and dignity of all Burlington County citizens and build bridges of trust to enhance the well-being of all those we serve.
