Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $18,920)
The City of Danbury will use funds from the 2024 Edward Byrne Justice Administration grant to send three officers to the 2025 Officer Safety and Wellness conference in Anaheim, CA in March of 2025. JAG funds will be used to pay for travel expenses such as conference tuition, flight, lodging, and miscellaneous travel expenses such as rental vehicle and parking.
In addition to the Officer Safety and Wellness conference the City of Danbury Police Department will use JAG funds to various equipment such as replacement of outdated equipment used by the police department dive and recovery team. Funds from the JAG grant will also be used to purchase of equipment used to calculate speed by the police department accident reconstruction team. Funds will also be used to purchase two digital cameras to be used by the police department evidence technicians to document crime scenes. Funds will also be used to purchase 10 folding plastic tables that can be used not only at the police deparment but also able to be taken to community events throughout the city. Funds from the JAG grant will be used to purchase two "stop sticks" which can be used by the police department Special Investigation Division to prevent vehicle pursuits when engaged in investigations. Funds from the JAG grant will also be used to purchase equipnment to be used by the firearms training division for ongoing firearm instruction and yearly qualification. Lastly, funds from the JAG grant will be used for the purchase of merchandise for the police department community policing unit for use during community events throughout the year.
