Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $14,458)
The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is seeking funding through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program to implement the Flock Advanced Operating System, which will significantly enhance public safety services within the region. This innovative system will integrate various advanced technologies, such as automated license plate recognition (ALPR), and gunshot detection devices to establish a comprehensive Real-Time Information Center. By creating gateways to gather video footage from government buildings, schools, businesses, and community partners, law enforcement will gain immediate access to crucial information, leading to faster response times and improved resource allocation.
The project will focus on expanding the Flock network and integrating surveillance cameras from local businesses and community members. Predictive analytics will be employed to identify crime patterns and hotspots, fostering proactive policing and enhancing regional collaboration among law enforcement agencies. Expected outcomes include improved crime prevention capabilities, increased situational awareness for law enforcement personnel, and stronger community engagement through active participation in town hall meetings and public forums. Residents will be encouraged to voice their opinions regarding surveillance practices, privacy concerns, and the overall benefits of the system.
The service area includes Yuba County and surrounding regions, benefiting law enforcement agencies, educational institutions, businesses, and residents. The implementation plan involves a multi-faceted approach, establishing agreements with neighboring agencies to facilitate seamless data sharing and coordinated responses to incidents. Community engagement is paramount, with outreach initiatives designed to educate residents about the system's capabilities and safeguards, thereby fostering public trust.
To meet performance data reporting requirements, the Sheriff’s Department will utilize the Flock system’s robust data collection and analysis capabilities. Key performance metrics will include crime statistics, response times, and outcomes related to gunshot detection. Regular monitoring and monthly reports will assess progress toward performance targets, ensuring compliance and informing necessary adjustments to the implementation strategy.
By strategically coordinating JAG funds with other state and local justice resources, the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is committed to enhancing its crime prevention strategies and building stronger community partnerships, ultimately creating a safer environment for all residents. Through this collaborative effort, the Flock Advanced Operating System will play a vital role in advancing public safety initiatives in Yuba County.
