Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $14,601)

The City of Ames Police Department has recognized that officers need to build and maintain their physical and mental health, in addition to traditional training to perform and excel at the demanding duties of the profession. The Department will continue with a program focusing on officer wellness. Officers also need the assurance of reliable equipment to help them perform the duties of their jobs. Outdated and malfunctioning equipment needs to be replaced.

The goal of the project is to provide selected individuals within the Police Department with training on issues of mental health and officer wellness, to better equip officer workstations with standing/sitting desks, so they are more comfortable while writing reports, replace outdated camera equipment for investigators, and equip officers with life saving tourniquets.
