Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $14,832)
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant will be utilized to procure equipment directly related to basic law enforcement functions. The Oconee County Sheriff's Office would like to purchase 31 new Digital Siren Units, with grant funds, to replace older units in patrol vehicles. The new advanced units have a patented mobile warning system designed to alert motorists and civilians that are in the area of imminent danger during critical events such as high-speed pursuits, and emergency responses. This technology will also enhance officer safety by notifying oncoming motorists when an officer is stopped on the side of the road. Oconee County believes that the purchase of the new systems will help keep citizens safe, as well as our officers. Our objectivesfor this project are to continue to preserve peace, prevent crime, apprehend criminals, protect life and property, recover stolen property, and enforce all State and County laws in a fair and impartial manner and to be consistent and humane to those in our custody and care. The equipment requested in the budget section of this grant will enable us to carry out and further these goals and objectives.
