The West Orange Police Department's (WOPD) Criminal Investigations Division (CID) and Office of Professional Development (OPD) will use funds to enhance operational capacity by integrating modern technology to support investigative procedures. The project is informed by the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing, particularly Pillar 3 which emphasizes the importance of effective technology in law enforcement. The WOPD’s initiative seeks to address the urgent need for updated equipment and training to promote crime reduction and better serve the community. The project will focus on modernizing West Orange’s CID and OPD through the acquisition of high-definition monitors, laptops, and advanced software designed for video analysis to enable the WOPD to streamline investigations and improve outcomes when solving crimes. The beneficiaries of this initiative will include law enforcement personnel directly involved in investigations and the West Orange community at large, who will benefit from enhanced public safety through more effective crime-solving capabilities. By investing in modern tools and proper training when utilizing them, the WOPD anticipates a significant increase in the efficiency of investigative processes resulting in higher rates of suspect identification and evidence collection.
