Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $10,430)
The North Richland Hills Police Departement is requesting grant funds to purchase three mobile fingerprint readers. One of the biggest issues for North Richland Hills, along with many other police departments, is the ability to properly identify subjects in the field when first contact is made with responding and investigating officers. It is well known, violent offenders, both wanted and those who recently committed a crime or were about to commit a crime, will provide false identifying information to investigating officers in an attempt to mask their true idendity and prevent them from being taken into custody. With this request the department hopes to purchase and use the mobile fingerprint readers in field investigations where officers have not been able to positively identify subjects while determining their criminal status or violent offender status. By utilizing these devices, officers have the tools needed to identify wanted criminals or those committing crime and take the appropriate action to keep themsleves and the commuity safe from violent crime.
