Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $10,692)

The disparate jurisdictions of Williamson County and the City of Franklin will use JAG funding for equipment to support technological improvements. Williamson County, specifically, will use funding from JAG toward signature pads for computers implementing digital reporting in the County jail. The City of Franklin, specifically, will use JAG funds for law enforcement training projector screens. Both jurisdictions will utilize JAG funds for the purposes of improving criminal justice operations and services.

Located within Middle Tennessee, Williamson County is responsible for providing incarceration services for all of the incorporated areas (six municipalities including the City of Franklin) and the unincorporated areas of the County. Williamson County’s population is approximately 261,000. The County Jail is operated by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department and provides detention housing for pre-trial and sentenced detainees. This Williamson County Sheriff’s Department Division’s mission is, “Care, Custody and Control.” The John I. Easley Jr. Criminal Justice Center encompasses approximately 121,000 square feet on 19 acres. Jail capacity is 454 beds and there are currently 103 staff in its current operation. The JAG project will provide greater efficiency, access to information and storage reduction with the implementation of digital signature technology for required reports.

The City of Franklin, within Williamson County, Tennessee is the most populated municipality at approximately 84,000 and serves as the county seat. The City of Franklin Police Department’s mission is to, “Keep Franklin safe by providing professional police services with integrity, honor, and courage,” its values statement is, “We value the people we serve and each other.” The City of Franklin Police Department, includes 136 law enforcement officers covering 42 square miles and 100 miles of roadway. The Franklin Police Department works with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department, Brentwood Police Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol and executes search warrants, makes arrests and recovers property within Nashville Davidson County. The Franklin Police Department Dive/Swift water Team, SWAT, and FLEX Team are covered under State Law to serve throughout the State of Tennessee. The JAG project will provide needed projector technology for training of all law enforcement officers which is beneficial to all communities served.
