Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $11,484)

The Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Office is seeking federal funding to replace our outdated radio communication equipment, which is no longer supported by manufacturers and poses significant risks to effective communication during emergency operations. The current analog radio systems have become obsolete, leading to frequent malfunctions and unreliability in critical situations. Without support or parts available for these outdated models, our ability to coordinate with other law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and emergency medical services (EMS) during emergencies is severely compromised.

This project aims to upgrade to modern digital radio systems that are fully interoperable with surrounding agencies and compliant with national and state communication standards. The new digital radios will offer enhanced signal clarity, secure communications, and the ability to operate seamlessly with partner agencies during large-scale events, natural disasters, and other emergency situations.

Given the small amount of grant funding being requested, we are focusing solely on the replacement of these unsupported analog radios to address the most immediate communication challenges. This upgrade will not only improve the day-to-day operations of our deputies but will also ensure that we are better prepared to respond to emergencies in coordination with other agencies.

By investing in new, supported digital communication systems, the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Office will enhance the safety of our personnel and the public, while ensuring compliance with the Statewide Communication Interoperability Plan (SCIP). This project is critical for maintaining a reliable and effective communication infrastructure for the continued protection of our community.
