Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $12,134)

The proposed project was developed to provide the Mission Police Department the opportunity to purchase (6) six body-worn cameras for police patrol officers. The Mission Police Department seeks to continue to improve crime scene evidence collection, enhance transparency amongst the community, and provide an objective record of interactions between Mission Police Department Police Officers and community members. The total grant request is $12,134.00, which will fund (6) body-worn cameras, (6) 3-year warranties, (2) replacement batteries, and (4) evidence library licenses. The Mission Police Department consists of over 175 sworn officers. The Mission Police Department is seeing a fluctuation in staffing, which is causing waves of mass and low hiring numbers for police officers. The Mission Police Department struggles to obtain adequate funding to provide body-worn cameras to all newly hired police officers. The Mission Police Department is determined to continue to expand its body-worn camera project, and provide all newly hired police officers with this vital piece of equipment.
