Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $12,327)
This application for funding is for the City of Shelby, located in the County of Cleveland, NC. The total amount of funding requested in this application is $12,327.00.
The City of Shelby will serve as the fiscal agent for the life of this grant. The city will maintain a responsibility to ensure that all reports are submitted in a timely manner, and drawdowns are completed, as required. This funding will be tracked separately and apart from all other Federal funding our jurisdiction receives.
Cleveland County is home to approximately 100,000 citizens. Over 20% of this population lives within the city limits of Shelby, which is protected by the Shelby Police Department.
Like in many other jurisdictions, our agency has been called upon in recent years to “Do more with less.” While our agency has funds in our general budget to provide law enforcement services to our citizens, we often must rely on additional funding through grants to support our budgets to increase the quality and efficiency of the services we provide.
Funds awarded through this grant program will be utilized to support and expand existing monies within agency budgets and build buy-in for law enforcement and criminal justice initiatives. These funds will be used to supplement existing funds already in place for proactive and reactive activities designed to prevent, reduce, investigate, and respond to criminal activity. Funds awarded will not be used to replace or supplant nonfederal funds that have been appropriated for the same purpose. Without prior certification from the BJA, these funds will not be used to purchase vehicles, vessels, aircraft, luxury items, real estate, or construction projects.
