Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $25,027)
As with other Los Angeles County cities, the City of Bellflower does not have its own police department. The city instead contracts its law enforcement services with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Many local municipalities face issues in providing adequate funding to maintain law enforcement resources in their respective communities, and Bellflower is not immune to these type of issues. The JAG Program serves as an excellent means for Bellflower to secure additional resources which are made available to the community as a whole and ultimately strive to protect and serve it as well.
JAG resources, under its category II funding element, will be used to maintain and increase Sheriff personnel within the community through the use of patrol units. Patrol units in Bellflower are the first line responders who encounter and confront almost all crime within the community. The demand for Sheriff resources over the years has increased greatly and the use of the JAG resources will be exclusively used to meet this demand.
Data collection for performance measures will be carried out through the use of crime information/stats. The Los Angles County Sheriff Department provides Bellflower with this information. JAG funding will specifically be used to target gang activity, drug offenders, auto theft, graffiti, and home burglaries.
