Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $30,769)

The Henderson Police Department will use the $20,013.00 allocated to the City of Henderson to purchase nine (9) Level IIIA Ballistic Shields to assist with tactical entries, active shooter events, and officer/civilian down rescues. Two (2) shields will be distributed amongst the four (4) patrol shifts (total of 8), and one (1) will be assigned to the criminal investigations section of the department. The implementation of ballistic shields on the line level will allow officers access to additional ballistic protection that will provide additional safety to themselves and to civilians during rapid and evolving events that members in law enforcement may encounter at any time. Active shooting events can occur at any place and time where officers serve and citizens visit such as the workplace, shopping center, and entertainment venues.

The Vance County Sheriff’s Office will use the $10,756.00 from the grant funds to purchase three (3) Level IIIA Ballistic Helmets to equip their special response team with ballistic head protection and three (3) Night Vision Goggles to assist in conducting operations in low light conditions and in the rural areas of the county. The Sheriff‘s Office also plans to use the grant funding to purchase a covert tracker that will be used to conduct criminal and illegal narcotic investigations.
