The Bellingham Police Department would like to add four more bicycles to the Civil Disturbance. The City hosts several large events that bring large contingents of people to the city, this unit of mobile officers have a huge impact on these events by being able to respond more quickly to crowd control and areas of concern.
Mental Health and Drug abuse has become 75% of an officer's day. Before de-escalation and care can be administered, the scene bust be safe. The Police Department would like to purchase six more WRAP Restraint Systems for all our Sergeants vehicles. The WRAP system will allow officers to quickly gain the control needed to accomplish getting the subject help and keeping them safe. The WRAP system is design ed to stop conflicts quickly, achieve fast de-escalation and provide rapid recovery for both subjects and officers.
Whatcom County Sheriff's Office must be prepared and equipped to deal with armed suspects in order to effectively mitigate the threat posed to the public. It is essential that all members of the Sheriff's Office have sufficient ballistic resistant vests to protect them from gun fire. The Sheriff's Office objective is to utilize allocated funds to purchase and replace current ballistic vests.
