Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $40,174)
The City of Jackson, Michigan, along with its subrecipient, Jackson County, will both use JAG funds to continue the Flock Safety license plate reader (LPR) subscriptions currently in place at both agencies. In addition, Jackson County will use grant monies to purchase rifles with sights, bags, slings, and extra magazines, as well as duty belt cases for medical tourniquets which are currently in use. The LPR system is a great investigative tool, allowing law enforcement in Jackson County to set alerts for specific vehicle make/model combinations as well as for specific license plate/registration numbers. This has enhanced law enforcement efforts by locating suspects and missing/stolen vehicles, as well as eliminating some vehicles and individuals from suspicion in investigations. Jackson County Sheriff's Deputies currently have medical tourniquets to use, however they are usually kept in a uniform pocket, which is not always easily accessible. By purchasing cases, the tourniquets will be stored on the deputies' duty belts, making it easier for them to be used in the event they are needed.
