Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $41,568)
Currently, our department has a limited number of license plate readers (LPRs) installed in patrol vehicles, and stand-alone readers in neighborhood; which are crucial tools in identifying stolen vehicles, locating drivers with expired licenses or active warrants, and solving serious crimes such as homicides and vehicle thefts. However, due to budget constraints, we have been unable to expand this capability to match the city's growth and increasing demand for proactive law enforcement. By securing $41,568 in funding, we will purchase five additional LPR systems, enhancing our ability to monitor and respond to crime more effectively. These systems will provide real-time data, increase officer productivity, and ultimately improve public safety, benefiting not only the residents of Fort Myers but also those in surrounding counties who commute or visit.
