Level III Plus Ballistic Shields

Provide OCSO deputies with enhanced capabilities when responding to incidents involving active shooters, where the suspect is armed with a rifle, and civil disobedience by purchasing Level III plus ballistic shields and gas mask lens covers.

The daily-wear body armor OCSO deputies use will not protect them from rifle fire.  The goal of the OCSO is to use grant funds to purchase ballistic shields (Level III+ which will stop rifle round) for all units within the agency (patrol, investigations, schools, etc.) which will make this equipment readily available to all OCSO deputies.  These shields which will enhance the deputies’ ability to successfully engage a suspect armed with a rifle, therefore increasing officer/citizen/victim survivability.  This equipment can be stored in a vehicle or base-of-operation making it available for rapid deployment.

Over the past several years the OCSO has been purchasing gas masks, and related accessories, to protect deputies from chemical irritants when performing riot control operations.  These gas masks will, with proper care, last indefinitely and there are clear lens cover available to protect the mask viewport.  The goal of the OCSO is to use grant funds to purchase protective lens covers for all gas masks in an effort to prolong the life of this equipment.
