Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $46,034)
The disparate jurisdictions of the City of Quincy, MA and the Town of Weymouth, MA will be applying for Jag funds to purchase security cameras to enhance security measures in a location that has a special risk of incidents of crime, purchase a police motorcycle and to purchase a SUV police vehicle. Specifically, the City of Quincy, MA will purchase four security cameras ($15,217.00) which will be used in areas that have a special risk for incidents of crime and with remaining funds will purchase a police motorcycle ($17,536.00) which will be used in the ordinary course for routine patrol. Also, the City of Quincy will serve as the applicant/fiscal agent for the joint funds and will use $1,000.00 in administrative fees for doing so. The Town of Weymouth is applying for JAG funds ($12,281.00) to purchase equipment that will be used to bolster their efforts in combatting illegal drug activity within the community. The equipment being purchased is a new Unmarked Police SUV that will be assigned to a dedicated drug enforcement detective as his normal patrol vehicle. The Weymouth Police Department has a dedicated drug enforcement program consisting of four (4) drug detectives. This vehicle will enhance the drug detective’s ability to conduct undercover surveillance of possible illegal drug activities being conducted within the community; while improving the overall quality of life for the residents of the community.
