Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $51,178)

The proposal submitted includes information on expenditures relative to the disparate jurisdiction process shared between Sioux City, Iowa and Woodbury County, Iowa. The entities are submitting a joint application which reflects each organization's needs relative to programming and/or equipment. Funds awarded will be split 50/50.
The Sioux City Police Department will use the funds to purchase equipment to assist all bureaus (Investigations, Patrol, SWAT, Drug Task Force) within The Sioux City Police Department as well as assist surrounding agencies if called upon within the Tri-State area. The Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office plans to utilize grant funding on updated and new equipment for Woodbury County Correctional Officer’s, Woodbury County Jail SWAT Unit and the Woodbury County Investigations Bureau.
During FY2024 The Sioux City Police Department responded to 5 homicides and SWAT Callouts increased with 10 calls for service for high-risk offenders. The Sioux City Resident Office/Drug Task Force executed 32 search warrants, seized 53,531.677 grams in illegal substances (methamphetamine, fentanyl, crack cocaine, prescription pills, etc.), and interrupted 28 Drug Trafficking Organizations within the Tri-State Area. The Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office employees 46 sworn Sheriff Deputies, 90 Correctional Officers and 7 non-sworn administrative staff. The Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office oversees and operates the Woodbury County Law Enforcement Center which is home to the Woodbury County Jail and the Woodbury County Attorney’s Office. The Woodbury County Jail currently has 234 inmates incarcerated with a max inmate capacity of 450 inmates. During FY2024 assaults on Correctional Officers has risen to a new 2-year high. The Woodbury County Jail presently is holding more violent offenders than it has in the past. The Woodbury County Jail houses inmates who have been charged with but not limited to murder, kidnapping, high-risk/violent offenders, and federal drug trafficking crimes.
