Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $64,512)

The goal of the program is to improve the police services of the participating agencies through the purchase of five pinhole cameras and two video recording devices; a dual-purpose law enforcement canine; technology and video equipment to assist in establishing a Real Time Information Center; and advanced protective gear systems designed for officers operating in high-risk environments.
The Collin County Sheriff’s Office seeks to purchase a dual-purpose law enforcement canine. The canine will be trained in both narcotics detection and patrol functions. This versatile canine will significantly enhance the capabilities of our agency, improving public safety through proactive drug enforcement and effective field operations.
The McKinney Police Department seeks to purchase five pinhole cameras and two video recording devices. The recording of criminal interactions is invaluable in court cases for their ability to provide objective evidence and promote accountability. These recording devices can quickly be deployed and configured in several concealed wearables to provide covert recordings without being noticed by potential suspects.
The Frisco Police Department seeks to purchase required technology and video equipment to assist in establishing a Real Time Information Center that will be used to operate as a multi-service resource to promote public safety.
The Plano Police Department seeks to purchase advanced protective gear systems designed for officers operating in high-risk environments. The purchase of these suits will provide superior defense against fire and blunt trauma promoting officer safety during active and dynamic situations.
The City of Plano serves as the fiscal agent and is responsible for the distribution of the funds to the other participating agencies. By interlocal agreement each agency purchases its own items and subsequently reports and documents those purchases to the City of Plano.
