Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $76,914)
The City of Oxnard shall serve as the lead agency for the following Ventura County agencies:
County of Ventura; cities of: Oxnard and San Buenaventura. The agencies are submitting this Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) FY 2024 Local Solicitation application with the intention of utilizing funds to improve local law enforcement efforts. The agencies share the goals of using the requested grant funding to avoid reductions and eliminations of vital equipment, training, and supply purchases to enhance public safety. The goal of addressing crime in the community will be assisted with the various equipment and supplies expenditures proposed. The strategies used are having each participating agency assess its needs and submit them to the City of Oxnard. The major deliverables are the timely purchases and payments necessary to enhance each agency. The coordination plans are each agencies timely submission for reimbursement of their approved expenditures to the City of Oxnard. The agencies will be given deadlines for their submissions to the City of Oxnard so the necessary reporting requirements will be adhered to in a timely manner through the Grants staff.
The top three project identifiers associated with this grant funding are the following:
Equipment (General) – De-Escalation equipment to help protect patrol officers, detectives, and Swat officers in high-risk tactical situations.
Training – Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) provide mental health training to patrol officers and dispatchers; advanced patrol techniques training cadre
Supplies – Furniture to replace old furniture used by deputies for report writing, briefings, bookings, and dispatching.
