FY24 BJAG Montgomery County Police Department BYRNE BLOCK Grant

Members of the Montgomery County Department of Police, Special Operations Division, are tasked with executing missions that exceed the capabilities of patrol officers. These members consist of Special Weapons and Tactics operators, Emergency Services Unit tactical medics, Operational Support Section-Search Managers, and canine handlers. Montgomery County frequently responds to instances of violent crime throughout the county, barricade situations, service of high-risk search warrants, and incidents involving critically missing individuals. Many of these events take place in the overnight hours where lighting is limited, and officers require the ability to safely operate in low-light or no-light environments to provide professional and effective law enforcement services to members of our communities. Due to the number of the listed events increasing, it is imperative that we upgrade our equipment in order to fulfill our responsibilities in a manner that protects the public, the officers, and those committing crimes. Each of the requested items improves the operational capabilities of the Special Operations Division to complete its varied missions in the county.
