The disparate jurisdictions of the City of Rochester, NY and the County of Monroe in NY will use JAG funds in the Crisis Intervention Services Unit (CIS) and Department of Probation in their respective jurisdictions. Specifically, the City of Rochester will use JAG funds to pay for the salary and half of fringe expenses for the CIS Clinical Supervisor as well as a contractor that will supervise a Peer Navigator to work in conjunction with CIS staff and clients. The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for the clinical supervision and training of the licensed Emergency Response Social Workers in the Person in Crisis and Community Support Teams. The Person in Crisis team (PIC) is a 24/7 non-law enforcement response to crises within the city of Rochester. The Community Support team (CST) works with victims of violence in the city of Rochester to get necessary resources and support. The Clinical Supervisor will work with both teams to ensure that they are providing the best de-escalation and case management services to the citizens of Rochester. The Peer Navigator, to be hired and supervised by an outside contractor, will work with families of victims of homicides within the city of Rochester. They will offer the families specialized, long-term support and care as they navigate the trauma of their loss. The County of Monroe will use JAG funds to pay for the salary of a Probation Officer in the Operation Nightwatch program. Operation Nightwatch is a program where young, often first-time gun offenders within the County of Monroe work with a Probation Officer who has specialized training in motivational interviewing and trauma informed care. The specialized training and lower caseload allows the Operation Nightwatch Officer to have a deeper relationship with the offender and even meet with offender in their home. This program has proved successful in decreasing the recidivism of these offenders as well as gathering important information related to other crimes.
