Anne Arundel County will administer the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant FY24 Local Solicitation by supporting programs of member organizations of the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC). The CJCC works to identify and address mutual concerns confronting agencies responsible for the administration of the criminal and juvenile justice systems in the County and to provide input and guidance to enhance existing efforts and to collaborate and create new programs to focus on the crime control and judicial resources. Within Anne Arundle County, areas served include zip codes 21401, 21060, 21403, 20742, 21409, and 21225.
The CJCC Coordination Program seeks to reduce recidivism and to break the criminal justice cycle through treatment and family intervention programs. This is primarily accomlished throught the Adult Drug Court programs. Expenses funded by the Byrne grant related to these special courts include a portion of salary and fringe for a Drug Court paralegal and a substance use disorder treatment case manager. The grant also funds a contract with the County Mental Health Agency for treatment for incarcerated individuals with co-occurring disorders. CJCC member, the Partnership for Children, Youth and Families will use their FY24 allotment to fund programs to divert youth from both school discipline and the juvenile justice system and to offer life skill, conflict and accountability programs to youth currently under Department of Juvenile Services supervision. The grant will support a portion of salary and fringe for a Community Conference Coordinator and a Department of Juvenile Services Mentoring Coordinator. Lastly, the Sheriff's Office's allocation will fund a mobile app that increases transparency and informaiton sharing among law inforcement and communities.
