Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $141,773)

Boise City Police Department (BPD) and Ada County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) have identified individual needs and a more detailed description of how each agency will utilize their funding is as follows.

BPD will lease a self-contained mobile surveillance unit for a one-year trial period to use for crime prevention and deterrence activities, as well as to facilitate safety at public events. They will also purchase protective gear including ballistic helmets and air purifying respirators.

ACSO will purchase Night-Vision Goggles and helmet mounts. A large portion of high-risk, terrorist and criminal activity occurs at night or in light restricted structures/settings. Night vision allows law enforcement to gain an advantage in these scenarios as most suspects do not have access to night vision technology.
