Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $142,367)

The City of Billings (Montana) and the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) are submitting a joint application for annual Justice Assistance Grant Funds in the amount of $142,367. Yellowstone County will be applying their $16,287 in grant funds towards the purchase of a helicopter transport cart, two portable radio bank chargers, and a four-wheel ATV for their search and rescue program.

The City of Billings Police Department (BPD) is requesting $70,000 for interior patrol SUV equipment. Examples of items needed are cages, center consoles, printers, and graphics. The City of Billings is also requesting $20,000 for the purchase of simulation ammunition; $16,200 for 15 patrol Point Blank vest replacements; $5,000 for First Aid Supplies; $7,500 for promotional items; and $7,380 for uniforms for the bike patrol, honor guard and ceremonial uniforms.

Neither the City of Billings nor Yellowstone County can fund any large public safety projects because of lack of available funding. Current expenditures keep increasing with no increased revenues. Therefore, the City is unable to fund what we are requesting with JAG Grant funds.
