The New Castle County Division of Police will be using their local allocation for FY 2024 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant on violent crime reduction. The overall goals are to ensure officer safety, enhance our community policing efforts, design strategies for lowering crime by analyzing crime trends, and deploy overtime officers to address violent crime in the communities with an increase of crime. The grantee will provide training to enhance skill sets of all officers; deploy overtime officers based on elevated crime trends; and provide emergency and non-emergency direct services to victims of crime.
The members of the New Castle County Police are dedicated to making their community safer through the professional delivery of police services while actively engaging in innovative problem solving and cooperative partnerships. It is essential that officers are prepared with the necessary skills to assess unstable crime scenes and safely defuse those situations. It is also imperative that officers stay current with their certifications as well as participate in skill building training seminars. Their Domestic Violence Unit will provide emergency direct services to victims of crime with needs that either are not allowable under Victims' Compensation Assistance Program (VCAP) or cannot wait for VCAP approval, to victims such as shelter, locks etc. The grantee will provide non-emergency direct services to victims such as hotels, rent, transportation, fuel, locks, etc.
