Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $183,764)

The Providence Police Department (PPD) seeks to utilize FY 2024 Edward Byrne Memorial Grant funding for the purpose of updating the department’s Stop Survey, E-Citation and Crash Reporting Software and continuing the department’s long-term relationship with Family Services of Rhode Island.
The upgrade will allow for data mapping of motor vehicle stops that result in a firearms arrest and weapons arrest, enhanced cyber security for the data collected and storage, integration of motor vehicle stops into the department’s records management system to provide the locations of hot spots in the city to reduce violent crime, and additional upgrades to data driven statistics for fatal accidents and pedestrian hit and run fatalities right down to the time of day. Moreover, enhancements will allow for the scanning of driver's licenses in the field as well as notifications or alerts to Command staff reducing the need to constantly monitor email or radio channels.
