Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $333,733)
The City of San José is applying for the FY 2024 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program in a joint application with the County of Santa Clara. The project is requesting funding in the amount of $333,733 for the period of 10/1/23 to 9/30/27 . The project will enhance law enforcement through the purchase of equipment, trainings, and crime prevention programs as follows. Community Partnership Academy Program will create a partnership that allows for successful collaboration between community members and law enforcement to educate the public on law enforcement practices, enhance public awareness and foster alliances. The purchase of a collaboration platform to communicate with department personnel and other stakeholders during critical incidents that maintains compliance with CJIS. Tactical Medicine Program will provide training for officers to become Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and could immediately respond and treat traumatic injuries to officers and community members during high-risk calls for service. The County of Santa Clara will use its allocation of funds to continue to implement trainings coordinated by the Office of Women’s Policy that will further the goal of ending girls’ incarceration.
