Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $569,529)

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) and its subrecipient, Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) proposes to use funds to retain Cadets in the Police Cadet Program to enhance their knowledge of CMPD operations, provide overtime for the Crime Lab to process evidence backlogs and work priority cases, provide overtime for Patrol to aid in reducing crime, upgrade cameras in the Detention Center to enhance monitoring security, and to support Leadership Development Emotional Training for MCSO Staff to receive the knowledge necessary to address critical decision-making skills such as self-awareness and emotional intelligence pertaining to law enforcement personnel. Additionally, funds will be used to continue MCSO’s retention and recruitment advertising campaign to highlight Detention Officer and Deputy Sheriff employment opportunities, purchase equipment for the Sheriffs Response Team (SRT) to provide safety when entering occupied dwellings, and purchase equipment for the Traffic Enforcement Unit to assist in the enforcement of traffic laws and the resolution of traffic accidents.
