Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $838,573)
The City of Baltimore, like many other cities, must find innovative and successful methods to reduce crime. Since the inception of the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program, and previous Local Law Enforcement Block Grant (LLEBG) – both have provided funding which has allowed various city agencies across the nation the ability to offer a coordinated and exhaustive method of combating crime. These efforts have long served as a national model for other cities to replicate and drive crime down. It is important to note that JAG will support future efforts to the continued labors established towards the goal of reducing crime. The city of Baltimore contains a large and diverse service population with 569,931 and has experienced historic public outcries to decrease crime. Therefore, Brandon Scott, Mayor of Baltimore, and Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard J. Worley Jr. are deeply committed to effect significant and lasting reductions in crime during 2024 and for the years to come.
This project will be accomplished through a coordinated response from the Baltimore Police Department (BPD), Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office (SAO), Circuit Court, and the Department of Housing & Community Development (HCD), Community Based Organization, and communities to implement crime prevention strategies and activities within those communities that suffer the most in crime.
The agencies funded through this program and the distributions are as follows: $703,573 to Baltimore Police Department and $135,000 to Community Services at Circuit Court.
