The New York City Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice (MOCJ) submits this application for $4,023,772 allocated under the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program FY 2024 Local Solicitation. MOCJ foresees distributing these funds to several corrections, law enforcement and prosecutorial city agencies in New York City, including New York City’s District Attorney offices, Department of Correction, Police Department, and the Office of the Special Narcotic Prosecutor. All programs included in this proposal will support full-time personnel responsible for coordinating citywide programs and initiatives for permissible purposes, including the following permissible uses: law enforcement programs; prosecution and court programs; prevention and education programs; corrections and community corrections programs; drug treatment and enforcement programs; planning, evaluation and technology improvement programs; and mental health programs and related law enforcement and corrections programs. Programs included in the FY 24 JAG proposal will focus on (1) preventing and prosecuting hate crimes, (2) enhancing justice system reform strategies, (3) advancing equity and support for underserved communities, and (4) reducing violent crime, including (5) preventing and responding to any violent threats against election workers. NYC is invested in supporting the initiatives outlined in this proposal as part of the JAG Program. As such, wherever personnel are included in this proposal to receive JAG program funding, NYC is committed to allocating NYC tax levy to cover the cost of the fringe benefits associated with these personnel costs.
