Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $1,000,000)
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation will utilize these funds to provide analytical, investigative, and forensic support in the investigations of missing persons and unidentified human remains cases across the state. The goals of this project are to locate and identify missing persons, identify unidentified human remains, to repatriate human remains to victims’ families, and to aid in the arrest and adjudication of these cases. Progress will be measured either by the completion of cases under the project goals and/or through a showing of increased productivity by monthly statistical submissions. Upon submission of this application, the state of Oklahoma has reported 120 unresolved Unidentified Human Remains (UHR) cases and 670 unresolved Missing Persons (MP) cases to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs). Funding under this program will, in part, work towards resolving and offering assistance to a majority of all the MP and UHR cases in the state of Oklahoma by the end of the grant period.
