Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $875,000)
The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), in collaboration with the University of Cincinnati (UC), will utilize this funding to provide training and technical assistance (TTA) support to four existing and two new Reimagining Justice project sites. IACP will leverage the expertise of partners and subject matter experts to develop tools and share resources with the field to test community-based public safety models that serve as an alternative to traditional enforcement for addressing lower-level, less serious crimes. In addition, the IACP and UC will provide a comprehensive range of TTA services to support Reimagining Justice project sites. These services are designed to improve community safety and quality of life; build trust and credibility between police and residents; promote coordination of community-based crime prevention; and enhance low-level crime reduction efforts amongst community stakeholders. The IACP and UC, will fulfill the requested deliverables by using a diverse range of vetted local and national subject matter experts including practitioners, academics, and federal partners to support a wide range of TTA activities; utilizing experience gained through the current role as TTA provider to four current Reimagining Justice sites and transferring that knowledge and lessons learned to new grantees; developing IACP Reimagining Justice resources for grantees and translating them to inform others in the field that are also developing and implementing community based crime reduction strategies; coordinating and tracking all TTA activities using internal systems and processes, and following BJA reporting protocols for performance measures for bi-annual reporting; and collaborating with BJA and other federal partners to find opportunities for data-sharing with other projects, presenting information through conferences and meetings, and convening grantee learning opportunities.
