Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $508,245)
The Coquille Indian Tribe is a federally recognized tribe located in Coos County, Oregon. This program will enhance the Tribe’s capacity to develop and deploy effective cultural-based prevention programs in order to meet the needs of Tribal youth. The goals include 1) reducing the number of Tribal youth using drugs and/or alcohol, 2) reducing the number of Tribal youth engaging in violence, and 3) increasing the number of Tribal youth that are meeting or exceeding their academic benchmarks for their age and grade. To address these goals the Coquille Indian Tribe will 1) recruit and employ 1 FTE position and re-design staffing responsibilities; 2) re-design update existing Tribal Youth Strategic Plan, 3) participate in evidence-based prevention training programs, 4) conduct regular outreach meetings with Tribal youth and families, 7) develop process and protocols for customizing prevention activities, 8) build an inventory of integrated prevention opportunities, and 9) expand, enhance, and launch new programs.
