Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $400,000)

The Central Council Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska project will enhance the Healing to Wellness Court currently serving Native youth and their families in the Juneau urban area. The overall goal of the project is to increase the capacity of the substance use treatment systems to achieve a permanent and sustainable change in the health status of Southeast Alaska Native families through a diversion/circle sentencing program headquartered within the Tlingit and Haida Court. The project will support the full implementation of a diversion program between the State of Alaska Division of Juvenile Justice Department and the Tlingit and Haida court. This region-wide effort will draw on the strengths, skills, and resources of all stakeholders, and require unprecedented coordination of resources at the system and services levels.
