Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $482,656)
The Bishop Paiute Tribe will implement a Tribal Youth Attendance Achievement Program (TYAAP) to focus on Bishop Paiute Tribal youth between the ages of 6 to 17. This program will allow the Bishop Paiute Tribal Court to expand services to tribal youth in the area by hiring a Truancy Program Coordinator to monitor minors who fall under truancy. The first year will consist of planning the overall program. The effectiveness of this program will be measured by the number of children who are no longer truant, number of court hearings, number of kids compliant with the program, number of children who repeat truancy, and number of families engaged with the program. The Truancy Program Coordinator will join Bishop Paiute Tribal Court staff including a Tribal Court Administrator and Tribal Court Project Coordinator. The Truancy Program Coordinator will collect data on participants in the TYAAP by keeping case files and log/spreadsheets. Data will be reported by the Tribal Court Project Coordinator in grant reports to Bishop Paiute Tribal Council, Administration, and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. The outcomes of this TYAAP are to help children make better choices, re-engage with school, increase graduation rates, avoid later criminality, and increase the child’s self-confidence.
