Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $499,501)

The Education Department of the Nez Perce Tribe will establish Nez Perce Youth Reconnect and Resiliency, a comprehensive program of cultural and life skills activities as a preventative measure for delinquency and substance abuse among Tribal youth on the Nez Perce Reservation in north central Idaho. The project will be implemented as a key part of the Education Department's Students For Success program, which has been in place for several years in with a proven track record in prevention of tobacco use and in promotion of healthy lifestyles. The program will serve Tribal youth ages 13-17 that are at risk of delinquency or in recovery from substance abuse. A full time Prevention Outreach Coordinator will be hired to coordinate the program, conduct public prevention education targeted toward youth and their families, manage the logistics of scheduling activities, and monitoring data obtained from pre- and post-activity surveys to track program efficacy. At least 250 unduplicated participants will become engaged with the program each year over the next five years.
