The Red Lake Band of Chippewa’s, “The Good Path in Life” Program is a youth-focused initiative that aims to increase academic success, college preparedness, cultural linkages/supports, community leadership opportunities, and resilience for female youth (grades 7-12) on the Red Lake Reservation in northern Minnesota. The project has set specific goals to be achieved by the end of year five, including a 25% increase in academic success and college preparedness for 200 and 100 female students, respectively, an increase in generational cultural linkages/supports for 200 female youth, and effective leadership opportunities for female youth. The project also seeks to contribute to a 10% decrease in victimization rates for RL female youth by increasing protective factors and resilience. The program will be monitored by Tribal Youth Program officials through the Red Lake Boy & Girls Clubs and will involve Tribal elders as program consultants. Activities to be implemented include the implementation of American Indian Life Skills, academic mentoring supports, Tribal Youth Leadership Training, and Talking Circles, among others. Continued funding for The Good Path in Life Program is critical to ensuring the success and well-being of female youth on the Red Lake Reservation.
