Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $500,000)
The Wayfinder Initiative program aims to address the critical issues facing their youth, such as suicide, truancy, substance use, and involvement in the juvenile justice system. Through the Cultivating Change Implementation Grant, Tlingit and Haida seeks to enhance their Youth Network services by implementing culturally responsive programming and early intervention strategies that are rooted in their traditional values. This initiative represents not only a program but a movement toward healing, resilience, and empowerment for their youth, ensuring they have opportunities for a bright and vibrant future. The Wayfinder Initiative is designed to prevent youth delinquency and support at-risk youth by offering a holistic approach to development and empowerment. Through strategic planning, the introduction of wellness activities, and the creation of a Healthy Youth Coalition, this initiative aims to foster a supportive environment where youth can thrive. Key to the initiative is the hiring of a Wayfinder Program Coordinator, who will spearhead the strategic planning process and ensure that our programs are culturally grounded and responsive to the needs of the youth.
