Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $450,000)

The Alaska Native Justice Center submitted the application on behalf of the Southcentral Foundation (SCF) Alaska Native Unit (ANU). The SCF is requesting funding to expand the capacity of the ANU within Alaska CARES, the local Child Advocacy Center. The Center implements a multidisciplinary approach to the investigation, prosecuting, and services provision to victims of child maltreatment/criminal child abuse and neglect. The SCF will expand ANU’s capacity to provide advocacy and forensic interviewing by hiring an additional Alaska CARES Support Coordinator; provide access to trainings on trauma-informed care and child maltreatment services for SCF medical and behavioral health employees to increase coordination of care for Native children 17 years of age and younger; and foster cultural competence of the CAC’s multidisciplinary team to better meet the needs of Native children and families throughout the 36-month project period. A resolution is included by the Cook Inlet Region, Inc. (CIRI).
