Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $282,331)
The Orange County Sheriff's Department is the Southeast Regional Training Center (RTC) for the Gang Resistance and Education Training (G.R.E.A.T) Program--one of five in the country. The purpose of RTC is to support and promote the national G.R.E.A.T. program by encouraging agencies and jurisdictions within the Southeast region to join the national G.R.E.A.T. initiative and offer the G.R.E.A.T. program in their schools. RTC staff will assist with: G.R.E.A.T. Officer Certification Training; the promotion of the G.R.E.A.T. program at national and regional conferences, symposiums, and meetings; and, the review and update of G.R.E.A.T. Program curricula, materials, and certification courses. RTC functions are under the guidance of the Bureau of Justice Assistance and G.R.E.A.T. National Policy Board.
