Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2006, $243,750)
The State of Utah's Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice (CCJJ) is enhancing their Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification (SAVIN) program. Utah's SAVIN program provides the state's victims of crimes with information on their offender's custody status twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Through this project, CCJJ will expand its SAVIN coverage to include the Justice Court system within Salt Lake County, Utah. They will also leverage the data collected by providing justice court data to law enforcement personnel using Utah's Criminal Justice Information System (UCJIS).
Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification (SAVIN) Programs benefit the public by providing victims of crime with accurate and timely information about the status of their offender and court events related to their case. In this way, victims are able to fully participate in the judicial process, make sound decisions to protect themselves from further victimization, and make sure their rights are being upheld. This information-sharing capability is also available to courts, corrections, and law enforcement officials.
Enhancements done to Utah's SAVIN system will use the Global Justice XML Data Model (GJXDM) and associated implementation guidelines.
