Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2006, $1,250,000)

The Vermont Department of Corrections will implement a Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification (SAVIN) system with the intent of providing timely notification to the crime victims who request it. In addition, by transitioning from the current manual notification process to an automated system, the potential for error will decrease, allowing victims to receive more accurate information. The Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification (SAVIN) program ensures victims of crime receive accurate and timely information regarding the status of offenders and events related to the case. Through SAVIN, victims are able to participate in the judicial process and make sound decisions to protect themselves from further victimization while maintaining total anonymity. This information-sharing capability is also available to courts, corrections, and law enforcement officials. NCA/NCF
